We want to get it just right, so if we are going to show it off, it certainly should be the final presentation, the fruit of the labor. This year, however, I am going to take another approach. You've seen my turkey plenty of times, some of you have even tasted it. For me, the sense of accomplishment comes not when Alanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04652680565968203385noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348918.post-80478709865547944632007-11-10T23:14:00.000-08:002007-11-10T23:18:59.355-08:00Unhealthy EatingI don't think I remember the last time I ate this bad for a whole day. Started off with a bagel for breakfast. Lunch was a bowl of wonton noodles soup. Then dinner was half a crab with garlic noodle. Nothing but carb, protein and plenty of butter from dinner. Aside from the half of apple in the afternoon, there's virtually no fruit or vegetable. Now I just feel icky. I wonder where it went all these years though. I walked into the store and saw this sign in the first aisle...who calls it "pop" around here? One day last year, Chris came home from work and told me that he had the best apple ever. It has the perfect balance of sweet and tart with a great crisp texture. The variety of it is called Honey Crisp. That's great and all, but he to actually bring one back for me to try. He tried to get one for me at the end of the season, but since it's the end of the season, it was okay, definitely not Winniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07492586527918300593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348918.post-65535293447151046102007-10-01T18:15:00.000-07:002007-10-01T18:55:35.809-07:00100% Healthy Dessert
Recently, after visiting some relatives, my mother and I went out for dessert in SF. We went to a place on Taraval across the street from KFC called "100% Healthy Dessert" or something like that. The interior was simple and modern like many of those restaurants that are marketed toward the Asian teens that have nothing to do any night and apparently aren't studying. But since Chris really don't like to venture down to South Bay, I just never had the opportunity. For some strange reason, he suggested that we go visit the Kwik-E-Mart down in Mountain View (promotion for the upcoming Simpson's Movie). I quickly suggest we try out this place. Meat is always good. Macaroni salad that is denser than Jessica Simpson's head is not. At least around here in the Bay Area, there was a recent surge in Hawaiian barbecue joints opening. For those who remember me little goodbye letter to instant noodle, I am still trying to avoid it. Since I am currently staying home, I need ideas for quick lunch that I could whip up and eat quickly. (I found that baby does not always sleep for long period of time.) I should clarify that I decided to stop eating it due to the high fat, sodium and chemical contents, NOT because I don't find them Winniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07492586527918300593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348918.post-54091988246934437912007-03-06T23:03:00.001-08:002007-03-06T23:03:23.737-08:00Miss Talise! Down here in SLO, a new eatery just opened up called "Bel Frites". It sells Belgian style fries with special dipping sauces. I've heard of these type of places on the Food Network so when one opened up here, I took a break from the books to check it out. The fries come in paper cones and you have the option of a special seasoning salt as well as dipping sauce. I got the recipe from Emeril at foodtv.com. I had so much leftover turkey, I had to do something about it and with finals coming up, I don't want to bother cooking everyday. The shepherd's pie seemed like a good idea. I don't think I let my turkey/veggie mixture thicken up enough so it was all a bit watery but still good. And no, I didn't mash up my own potatoes. This year, I was volunteered to provide the turkey on Thanksgiving with my in-laws. I didn't mind it too much except that I will have to transport this turkey to Benicia, and I didn't want the flavor of my turkey to be compromised in anyway. Well it turned out fine and I think the best compliments I got was from people telling me that they don't usually eat turkey but they ate mine that day. (Pies!!) Since I'm really not much of a baker, it takes quite a bit a patience out of me. Four pies (two calzela, sour cream apple, blueberry & peach custard pie) and and a batch of cookies (pumpkin chocolate chips) later, I think I'll pass over the duty to Chris on Christmas.

I've been experimenting with different flavors this past year since Chris don't like rum or espresso. The ever popular green tea version made with matcha powder is always excellent.
