Christmas Strikes Back

I had commented recently that I am over Christmas "stuff", but that certainly doesn't change the other great aspect of Christmas...the food! Sometimes, I think there are people that take advantage of our tendencies to gorge ourselves during this time of year, and try to shovel anything in our mouths. How else to explain the yearly Jones Holiday Soda pack? From Turkey and Gravy to Greenbean Casserole to Stuffings and Fruitcake, there is nothing stranger out there. Last year, some friends and I tried a few of the flavors like Turkey, Stuffings, and Pumpkin Pie. They are back this year and at least I learned not to pay full price for them this time (although proceeds do go to charity). Well we decided to first try one of the new flavors this year, Dinner Roll. I can tell you that like all of the other holiday flavors that I've tried, they really taste like what they claim to, with a weird soda quality to it (and that is not a good thing).

(This is definitely the BEFORE picture...bleh)

From the "Sounds bad but doesn't taste so bad" category, Candy Cane Pop Rocks made an appearance in our stockings. Besides the fact that I am eating an 80's relic that may or may not have killed that Mikey kid, I didn't think that candy cane and Pop Rocks necessarily went together.

Strangely enough, it was ok. Probably due to the fact that it actually tasted more like cherries than mint candy cane. The panel approves with applause (well, the crackling sound on their tongues, anyway....)

Finally, back to the "sounds bad and taste worse" side of things, we had the misfortunes of discovering Dill Pickle flavor sunflower seeds. Now we are all seed aficionados and like nothing more than a cheekful of David's on a summer's day at a ball game, but they really should have learned their lesson back with Nacho Cheese flavor (bleh).....

Anyhow, as promised, it tastes as bad as it sounds....

Thank you, tasting panel. You can ask Santa for your taste buds back next Christmas....
