Turkey, turkey, and more turkey

We always bake our own turkey after Thanksgivings. We look forward to leftovers much more then anything. The possibilities with cooked turkey is also endless. Of course there's sandwiches. You could make great grilled cheese sandwiches with turkey, shredded cheddar and grainy mustard. I also made a really good turkey pasta with turkey broth and finish off with sour cream. There are still more plans for the rest of the meat. If we don't finish it up so fast, I might post some pictures next time.

Pumpkin Pasta

It's hard to believe that it has only been a couple of years ago that I started to eat pumpkin. I never like pumpkin pies before. (I still only eat them if I made it now.) Being Chinese, I didn't eat any pumpkin growing up either. Somewhere along the way though, I learned to like the sweetness of it. So I've been trying to find more ways to incorporate pumpkin in my daily cooking. This is roughly based on a recipe I saw on food network (30 Minutes Meal? I forgot...) I said rough because I'm pretty sure hers did not have Filipino sweet sausage in them. (That's the only sausage I have at the moment!) Here's the ingredient list: canned pumpkin, cooked pasta, a little stock to thin out the pumpkin, onion, sausage, chopped parsley and a little half-and-half. Quite good. I think I might make this again this week with some homemade potato gnocchi stash in my freezer.

IMBB #10: Chocolate Cinnamon Cookies

I've been wanting to participate in IMBB since it started. Being that I didn't have a blog (even though that wasn't a requirement), I kind of put it off until now. The theme this time is Cookie Swap hosted by The Domestic Goddess. Yesterday happens to be my niece's 5th birthday party, and she loves chocolate chip cookies. So besides making her baked macaroni and cheese, I also baked a batch of chocolate chip cookies.

This is the Neiman Marcus chocolate chip cookie recipe with 1 and 1/2 tsp of cinnamon added. I was going for a mexican chocolate flavoring since I was orginally going to grate in mexican chocolate and found that I don't have enough. Everybody who had some seems to like it a lot. Next time, I think I will make sure I have enough mexican chocolate around to experiment more and maybe also add some almond pieces for texture.

Kitchen mishap...

I'm sure everybody has their own kitchen accident/mishap. I never really had too much of them. (I guess I don't do as much experimenting as I thought.) The latest one is more out of pure carelessness than any glamour experimentations. I burned my rice pudding so much that I basically have to throw away my pot. One minute it was boiling nice and slow, next minute I started to smell the burnt rice. *Sigh* So the lesson of the day, never move away from a pot of rice pudding for more than 5 minutes and keep stirring! I guess at least I get to shop for a better pot now.

Lazy Dinner

Veggie burger, fried egg, tomato sauce, and some greens make up the filling for this quick sandwich. Pretty old picture, but since this seems to be the most viewed picture on my flickr site. I figure it's a good way to start this blog.
